After all those "boring" abstract wallpapers and icons, I have to please my space art fans with a new scene ;)

Hope you enjoy it!

I would love a critique on this one! :D

______

:new: Update 29/09/2010 :new:
Changed moon texture
Slightly enhanced nebula
______

Download includes wallpapers for Standard and HD Widescreen resolutions, although it is optimized for widescreen resolutions.

Like most of my creations, everything is created from scratch using Photoshop, except for part of the nebula which is created in Apophysis.

The strange beauty of the celestial bodies. They come in various sizes from the mind-bendingly large to the incomprehensibly small. Some are barren and desolate, while very few much like our own are capable of sustaining life upon its surface. Who's to say how many are floating aimlessly around the cosmos and which ones are within are reach while others only exist in the imaginations of others. Beautiful Dream by *Stagma, shows us a eye-catching depiction of one such celestial body as it makes its unknown journey around its solar system with its secrets hidden within its atmospheric clouds.

For starters, the texture on the two planets is excellent. It really gives the look of a clouded and heavily atmospheric planet very well and immediately grabs the viewer's attention. The focused lighting of a nearby star perfectly illuminates the face of the planets, making the image's atmosphere that much deeper. The nebula clouds in the background look great as well, although some textures in the cloud repeat making the nebula appear a bit repetitive and unappealing in some parts, more specifically the edges.

As good as the planets look, the lower edge of the large planet shouldn't be so sharp looking. It almost looks as if it was added in at the last moment. Try either blending it into the nebula clouds or just try and partially erase some of that edge away so it could work a bit better with the flow of the image.

With some improvements, this piece could go from good to great. There are a lot of good things about it, but some of the flaws in its execution are holding it back. Good work, nonetheless.

The planets are absolutely gorgeous. Perhaps a bit too blown out around the light areas. Just tone down the color dodge a bit. Space isn't a very colorful place, I would make the ambient light a bit less prominent.

It's just my style :P I love punchy, saturated colors and bright,
colorful glows.

To be honest with you, if my art was realistic, it would be boring.
It would be a simple grey solid on a pitch black background with
barely visible tiny stars.

Thanks for the feedback though! Greatly appreciate it ;)
